Hi, I’m Liz.

Holistic & compassionate therapy for highly sensitive, neurodivergent adults & couples in Colorado.

You’re ready to experience deep, transformative healing.

You’re painfully aware of how your past influences the present. It’s like old wounds are stuck on repeat, creating a disconnect in your mind, body, and relationships.

It’s time to get to the root of what’s keeping you stuck.

You’re looking for someone who can guide you on this healing journey. Someone whose energy is patient, kind, and calm. Someone with whom you feel comfortable to be yourself.

I’m so glad that you are here.

HOLISTIC TRAUMA THERAPIST & SPEAKER

TRAUMA | NEURODIVERSITY | PSYCHEDELIC INTEGRATION

Helping highly sensitive, neurodivergent adults + couples to heal + thrive.

LIz Zhou, EMDR therapist in Colorado.

This is a space that affirms and welcomes all parts of you.

You may feel like you’re in a tug-of-war between your true nature and the person that society pressures you to be. I want you to know that your whole self is welcome here, and that you are worthy of your deepest needs & desires.

(And if there are parts of you that don’t really believe that, they are welcome here, too.)

Maybe you’ve tried talk therapy, but realized that it only scratched the surface. Therapy with me is different.

We won’t just talk in circles. I’ll help you dig deep and get the root of the issue. We’ll explore how unhealed experiences still live in your nervous system, affecting your health & relationships today.

Through mind-body practices, you’ll learn to access the medicine within you: intuition, joy, compassion, creativity. We’ll use transformative therapies, like EMDR & IFS, to heal old wounds — at your pace, in tune with your needs.

Since these therapies work with the body & nervous system, you won’t have to talk about painful stuff the whole time if you don’t want to. (Because let’s be real — you’ve done that already and it didn’t really help.)

With the right support, you can unlock the natural healing powers of your brain + body.

Our sessions are a creative collaboration, like a music piece that we improvise together. You show up exactly as you are. I bring the big-picture view and guidance of a seasoned conductor — allowing you to navigate your inner world & relationships with confidence.

Whether we’re working 1:1 (individuals) or 2:1 (couples), my goal is to help you live your most meaningful + authentic life.

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO WORK TOGETHER?

As your therapist, I don’t shy away from “taboo” topics — like power, privilege, identity, psychedelics, money, sex, death, climate crisis — because I know how important it is to talk (not just whisper) about the elephants in the room.

You know those thoughts & feelings that you’re scared to voice aloud? The things you’re curious about, but not sure if you’re “allowed” to go there?

All of that is welcome here.

Bottom line… I’m not your typical buttoned-up, “blank-slate” therapist. I won’t just nod & smile passively. You can expect me to be fully present with you as my authentic self.

Clients come to me feeling lost in a world that wasn’t built for them, struggling with a loud inner critic & a nervous system that feels like it’s working against them.

My clients leave therapy feeling comfortable in their own skin, and empowered to build the life & relationships that they deserve.

I want this for you, too. And I can help you get there.

My therapy practice is rooted in these values.

I care deeply about creating inclusive spaces & uplifting marginalized voices.

  • Acknowledging, affirming, and supporting all neurotypes, including autism, ADHD, and high sensitivity. Honoring the unique wiring of your brain and body. Highlighting Self as expert.

  • Welcoming & affirming all gender identities, gender expressions, and sexual orientations.

  • Striving for equity and justice. Creating inclusive spaces. Disrupting systems of violence.

Acknowledging how privilege, power, and oppression shape the world and your lived experiences.

Exploring the cultures, communities, and identities that are important to you.

  • Acknowledging that the field of psychotherapy was not designed with all brains, bodies, identities, and cultures in mind — and therefore challenging the universality of Western therapy models & adjusting therapy to match the needs of each individual.

Recognizing the impact of colonization & systemic oppression on communities. Incorporating practices that promote collective healing. Honoring Indigenous wisdom.

MY STORY

What brings me to this work?

Liz Zhou, EMDR therapist in Colorado.

I became a therapist because this work feeds my soul.

My journey to get here was not linear. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a foreign language interpreter. I grew up bilingual in Mandarin Chinese and English, and studied German, Russian, and Spanish along the way. I loved the way that speaking and listening to languages made me feel — curious, connected, and fully present.

At some point, I realized that there was another language to learn — the art of listening to the brain and body, the unspoken energy behind words and thoughts.

In my second year of college, I took a sharp left turn, switching from a Russian language major to a psychology degree.

My learning experience was both fascinating and frustrating. As I devoured coursework on mental health, neuroscience, and human behavior, I noticed that my education revolved mostly around Western perspectives.

I wondered if there were other ways of knowing and understanding ourselves, beyond a pathological and clinical model.

After graduation, I was lucky enough to receive a year-long travel fellowship, through which I could study a topic of my choosing.

In a quest to fill in the gaps left by my Western education, I decided to explore altered states of consciousness across cultures.

My journey introduced me to the healing traditions, spiritual practices, and sacred medicines of the world. I encountered:

  • the Shipibo shamans of Peru

  • the Mazatec curanderas of Mexico

  • lessons on bee-keeping, land conservation, and medicine preparation in the Colombian Amazon

  • yoga and sound healing practices in the Himalayas of Nepal

  • an indigenous Bwiti village in Gabon, home of the iboga root medicine

  • a spiritual commune in Brazil

  • 10 days of solitary, silent meditation in a room devoid of light (a dark room retreat, inspired by the ancient cave retreats of the Dzogchen lineage of Tibetan Buddhism)

These experiences transformed the way I understood myself, the world, and the nature of consciousness.

Post-fellowship year, my explorations continued in the plant medicine world — first at a shamanic healing center in the mountains of Ecuador, and then at another center in the jungles of Peru. I served as the shamans’ Spanish-English translator, and was trained to facilitate ayahuasca ceremonies and integration circles in the Shipibo tradition.

Immersed in the spirit and songs of nature, I learned what it means to talk to plants. I witnessed the healing of mind, body, and soul.

Eventually, I made my way back to the United States to pursue my master’s degree in Mindfulness-based Transpersonal Counseling. I attended a Buddhist-inspired university, which integrated Eastern wisdom with Western scholarship.

As a therapist, my work weaves together all these experiences — clinical, academic, contemplative, spiritual, and cultural.

Approach to Therapy

I cater my approach to meet your needs + goals. Here’s what we might do in our sessions.

  • Caring for all aspects of wellbeing — mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, social, and financial.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing. Evidence-based, mind-body approach to trauma recovery.

  • Internal Family Systems. Befriending the different parts of Self, which interact with each other much like members of a family system. Facilitating communication and collaboration between parts to support a healthy, whole Self.

  • Listening to information communicated through emotions and sensations in the body.

  • Observing your experience from a state of presence, non-judgment, and non-reactivity.

  • Using brain-body communication to create pathways toward wellbeing.

  • An experiential approach that pays attention to mind and body, positing that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

  • Exploring the spiritual and transcendent aspects of human experience.
